Leo qualified in 1989. He has worked in both the Community Dental Service and in General Dental Practice.
Leo has an MSc in Periodontology and is on the GDC specialist register for Periodontics. He started working part time for the DDU in 2005 and went full time in 2009. Leo became Deputy Head of the DDU in 2016.
Philip qualified from Leeds University and following Oral Surgery House and Senior House jobs, worked as both an associate and principal at a practice in Sunderland for 26 years. He was an active member of the LDC and a Clinical Support Manager for My dentist.
Philip was a member and chair of GDC Fitness to Practice Panel for eight years.
Philip holds the Diploma in Restorative Dentistry, the Diploma in Dental Health Services Leadership and Management and the Fellowship of General Dental Practice.
He was an assessor for the Fellowship of FGDP (UK).
He began working for Dental Protection as a Dento-Legal Adviser in 2016 and is presently a Cases Team Leader, based in the London office.
He attained the LLM in Medical Law from Cardiff University in 2018
David Kramer is a general dental practitioner with well over thirty five years experience. He currently runs a practice in Teddington, as well as being part time clinical lecturer at St. Bart’s and the London School of Medicine and Dentistry.
David is a registered dental expert witness, providing numerous reports on clinical negligence and regulatory cases, receiving instructions from defence, claimant and prosecution solicitors. David has been involved in training expert witnesses and has lectured widely on clinical aspects of dento-legal matters.
Richa qualified from Cardiff University in 2008. She is a general dental practitioner with over 13 years’ experience. She currently works in a dental practice in Tonbridge (NHS and Private). She has a keen interest in dental implants and is currently working towards gaining the Implant Diploma with the Royal College of Surgeons. She enjoys teaching and works as a Dental Clinical Tutor at King’s College London where she carries out practical teaching to dental undergraduates.
She successfully gained her Postgraduate Certificate in Clinical Education with King’s College London and is a member of the Academy of Medical Educators and Faculty of Higher Education – all of which have helped to enhance her teaching skills. She is starting to carry out expert witness work and recently became an expert witness and advisor for the GDC. She was previously the BDJ young dentist representative for the East Midlands over 6 years and is now the membership secretary for the DLEF.
Dr Rachel Manson BDS MA (Law)
Rachel graduated with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery in 2021. She completed her dental foundation training in Cheltenham. She holds a Master of Arts in Law with distinction from the University of Law (2023) and she is currently undertaking an LLM at BPP University. She has a particular interest in healthcare law and joined the DLEF committee in 2024.
Chris has been President of the Dental Law & Ethics Forum since 2001. He is a solicitor and a dentist. In 2021 he was made an Honorary Fellow of the Faculty of Forensic & Legal Medicine.
Chris retired as the Senior Partner of Hempsons, a national healthcare law firm, in July 2021.
He first qualified as a dental surgeon, and practised dentistry in the UK and overseas for ten years before training as a solicitor. Chris became a partner at Hempsons in 1996 specialising in all aspects of dental and regulatory law and headed Hempsons’ National Dental Team and the firm’s Regulatory and Crime Team.
Chris has long been recognised as a leader and Band 1 practitioner in the field of Professional Discipline by the Legal 500 and Chambers directories.
His main areas of legal practice included defending healthcare practitioners at the GDC, GMC, GOC and HPC; Defendant clinical negligence litigation for dentists, doctors and other healthcare professionals; NHS regulatory work (e.g. Performers List hearings and related appeals; Specialist List applications and appeal; acting in disputes between practitioners; and all types of GDC and GMC registration matters).
Chris is currently on the board of the British Dental Association, and of Certitude, a large social care provider.
Maggie qualified as a dental surgeon in1990 and spent the first three years working as a hospital dentist, mainly in maxillofacial surgery. Having obtained a Fellowship from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow, Maggie undertook specialist training in Orthodontics, qualifying in 1997 with Membership from the Royal College of Surgeons and a Masters degree in Dental Science. Having worked for 2 years in the community dental service, Maggie opened her own practice where she still works part time.
In 2013 Maggie was appointed to the Fitness to Practise Panel at the GDC and was appointed Chair in 2016. Maggie has completed a Post Graduate diploma in Dental Law and Ethics, the Bond Solon Civil Certificate for Medical Expert Witnesses, DLM for the Faculty of Forensic Medicine and achieved an LLM in Legal aspect of Medical Practice. In addition, Maggie sits as a Presiding Justice on the Wiltshire Bench Magistrates Court. Maggie joined MDDUS September 2024 working as a Dento-legal Adviser.
David qualified from Newcastle Dental School in 2002, before working in general dental practice in various settings across the UK and Australia. He completed the Certificate in Restorative Dental Practice at the Eastman in 2011 and the MJDF at the Royal College of Surgeons in 2014.
After joining the DDU in 2015 and becoming a full time Dento-legal Adviser, David was awarded an LLM in the Legal Aspects of Medical Practice from Cardiff University in 2018.
